Millennium Walk: Bradford City Hall to Greenwich Dome

In order to celebrate the millennium in a way appropriate to a rambling club, the club arranged a series of walks, about one per month, from Bradford City Hall to Greenwich Dome, a distance of about 250 miles, (approximately the same distance as the Pennine Way).

We started the walks in January 1999 and finished in the summer of 2000.

Ray Wilkes, the club's Millennium Walk co-ordinator, said at the start:

"Other than the first mile out of Bradford and the last mile into Greenwich, the walk will be on footpaths. The club has devised its own route from Bradford to the southern end of the Peak District. From there we will use the Midshires Way to the outskirts of Luton, from where we will walk the Lea Valley Way to the Dome".

Bradford CHA drew on the extensive experience of its members to select routes which were intrinsically interesting as a way of exploring the pleasant countryside right across the East Midlands and the Chiltern Hills. Ray Wilkes added

"It will be almost a bonus that it is a good way of celebrating the millennium".

The club organises public transport rambles every Saturday and coach rambles every Sunday.
