9th February 2002... Ilkley
to Pateley Bridge

A train to Ilkley was the way around 25 walkers started this Saturday walk. The weater forecast was not great but the happy band were soon heading up out of Ilkley.

The outline of Round Hill (409m) was ahead of us as we took a five minute coffee break, accurately timed by our leader Colin Gregg (left).

The weather started to turn as miles of boggy moorland were covered.

Soon we descended into the protection of the upper Washburn Valley and crossed the bridge at the head of Thruscross Reservoir. From here on the much of the walking was on the road until we reached Braithwaite Moor when the heavens opened and the rain became horizontal as we descended towards Middle Tongue.

A group of very wet walkers paused for this photo opportunity as we proceeded on from Middle Tongue.

It was also a pretty damp Pateley Bridge that met us as we squelched across the bridge spanning a River Nidd in full flow.

.
Job well done... Pateley Bridge is about 35 kilometres (22miles) due north of our start point in Bradford. ... Click here to see where we are now
