24th February 2002... Pateley Bridge
to Fearby

In the previous week we had rain, high winds, even snow but here we were at Pateley Bridge ready for the off.

Final checks on the pedometer and we make a start....

About 3.5 km out off Pateley we joined the side of Gouthwaite Reservoir which we followed for the next 3 km until we reached Bouthwaite.

From Bouthwaite there was a steady climb of about 250 metres up half frozen yet very muddy tracks to the top of Fountains Earth Moor. Then with Jenny Twigg & her daughter Tib to the west of us we trudged across the moor land.

.

At Comb Crags on Low Ash Head Moor we found shelter to have a belated lunch.

With spirits lifted we then set off to descend to Roundhill and Leighton Reservoirs. The "A" party took the slightly longer "off road " route via High Sourmire and Towler Hill to arrive at Leighton Grange just behind the "B" party. Both groups then had to cover a few kilometres of tarmac before a welcome cup of tea or pint at Fearby.

Job well done... Fearby is about a couple of kilometres (one and a quarter miles) west of Masham. ... Click here to see where we are now.
