24th March 2002... Fearby to Redmire

An over-capacity group... more than sixty, meant some members travelled by car to Masham and met up with the coach and the main group there. The result was a slightly late start out of Fearby, but by just after eleven we were on our way north-west out of Fearby.

. On passing through the farmyard at Warren House we had to take instructions from the local guard dog.
Coffee break was well after midday, but we did have a good view as we had just come over the hills and Wensleydale was streaching out ahead of us. There was just a glimpse of Jervaulx Abbey through the trees.
Then down we went into Wensleydale and East Witton, our first village since Fearby,

Down we went towards the point where the River Cover and the River Ure meet, at Ulshaw.
On our way there was time for some to pause at the Coverbridge Inn before heading off west towards Leyburn

Time was getting tight as we passed through the streets of Leyburn, the group split into two with the faster party rushing on ahead to make contact with the coach.

Up and out of Leyburn heading due west along the "Leyburn Shawl" with the outline of Pen Hill far away on the other side of Wensleydale.

We still had to wait for the coach at Redmire for reasons too complicated to explain here.
However it is another job well done...Redmire is in the heart of Wensleydale. ... Click here to see where we are now.
