21st April 2002... Redmire to
Reeth
| |
| |
Again this
walk was a popular attraction causing the coach to fill and, sadly, two members
had to be turned away.
From Redmire we retraced our steps a little by
heading east down little "green lanes" back to Preston-under-Scar. Then it was
across the railway line and through Gillfield Wood before heading north and up
out of Wensleydale observed, as we passed, by a group of bovine
onlookers.

And then it was across the Army Firing Range...as you do, and
on to Broomber Rigg and the mineworkings on Preston Moor
| Looking across the landscape of
deserted lead mines we can still see our old friend Penhill on the other side
of Wensleydale. |
| |
. |
| As we arrived at the top of
Redmire Forest (462m) we got our first sight of Swaledale in the distance. |
| |
Then off again across more than
enough burnt heather until...
| |
There was Swaledale....
As we looked
across Cogden Heugh we could see the village of Grinton and beyond it our
destination, Reeth. |
Down a wooded path to
Grinton, and on past the church. .
Job well done... Reeth in in the
very heart of Swaledale

Across the meadows
by the side of the Swale, Reeth is a few minutes away. Time for a pint and
a last look as the shadows lengthen and we get on the coach to return to
Bradford. |
