| Getting the carnival week underway
has been
Raymond Eddy's giant Fun Fair which opened on Friday 17th of
May and is open every day until the main day on Saturday 25th of May.
Carnival day kicks off at 11.30am when the parade will be fully assembled alongside Queens Park for the judging which will be done by the Lord Mayor of Leeds. The parade will then commence at 12 noon making it's way through the streets of Pudsey through Chapeltown before turning left up Richardshaw Lane and then onto Cemetery Road before returning back to the carnival field. A street collection will be made along the way where it is hoped hundreds of pounds will be made with money being raised St. Johns Ambulance. Floats, displays and cars will make their way along the route with leading vehicles including those of the Lord Mayor, the carnival queen Charlotte Rafton from Waterloo Junior School will join Britannia Kayleigh Beardow also from Waterloo Junior School as well as attendants and sailors. After the parade returns the carnival will be officially opened at 1.15pm with Gaynor Barnes being involved in the ceremony together with the Lord Mayor and various other invited guests. Following the crowning a whole host of free -entertainment will be on-offer in the arena lasting around three and a half hours The approximate running order of the arena is as follows (however this is subject to change depending on weather and alterations which may be made during the day).
Please note there will be free car parking available for the fireworks. Various other surprise will be on hand in the arena with extra entertainment in and around the scheduled events. Of those events the spectacular James Dylan Motorcycle Stunt Display Team will be on hand to perform jumps, and stunts with a spectacular fire finale. While Tony Brutus and Amanda will perform many amazing feats of strength during their shows. Once again we would like to emphasise this entertainment is free with there being no admission charge to the field making this one of the biggest free admission events in Yorkshire. Around the field there is also a host of attractions and stalls to browse around. Stalls include tombolas, craft, various food outlets, and trade and market style. In total there are over forty to choose from where you can enjoy spending money at the various charity stalls or even win yourself a giant cuddly toy. On field entertainment also includes plenty of freebies, there will be a magic show and various displays to enjoy. There is of course the fun fair as well as bouncy castles, inflatable slides, an obstacle course, a hot air balloon, the cresta run sleigh ride and trampolines. Elsewhere around the field you can meet the Yorkshire Evening Post promotions team at the YEP bus, ride a quad bike, try your hand at gladiator jousting, enjoy all the thrill and spills of a flight simulator. There are over forty stalls from various local groups and charities around the field, while also a mass of floats in the parade. This is the second time there has been a firework display at the carnival, although in 2000 the Millennium Display was poorly attended as a result of rain. The carnival committee are promising thousands of pounds of spectacular pyrotechnics -which will be ignited at around 9.40pm. The display will last just under fifteen minutes, and will feature only large scale fireworks. The fair will remain open throughout the night and there will be plenty of hot food should the weather be cold. |
