Calverley Methodist Hall, Chapel Street, Calverley a) Armchair Walks Around Calverley Visit Calverley (including the Millennium Way) and adjacent districts, for example Farsley, Rawdon and Pudsey without moving a muscle! Photographic slides takes us on a virtual tour highlighting the scenery and the buildings on the way. Perhaps they will bring back memories or maybe you will be discovering the local history for the first time. Old postcards, photographs, maps, books, etc., add interest and variety. Friday 10 weeks 4 th October 2002 10.00 am ‑ 12.00 noon Full Fee £40 Conc. £30 b) Armchair Walks, Calverley's Neighbours A further selection of armchair walks which will include Horsforth, Rodley, Stanningley and a long walk round the old Pudsey Borough Boundary contrasting with Briggate in Leeds. ‑ Don't worry, you won't get tired or wet but you should enjoy the local history. Friday 10 weeks 17th January 2003 10.00 am ‑ 12.00 noon Full Fee £40 Conc. £30 Farsley Library Meeting Room ‑ Old Road, Farsley a) Armchair Walks, Farsley's neighbours A selection of armchair walks including Horsforth, Rawdon, Rodley, Stanningley and the Calverley Millennium Way. Slides of scenery and buildings highlight our everyday surroundings and help us discover the local history. Thursday 10 weeks 3rd October 2002 7.00 pm ‑ 9.00 pm Full Fee £40 Conc. £30 b) Armchair Walks, Waterfronts Another group of districts will be covered by slide photography, taken as near as possible to a virtual walk. Relax and wander along the Leeds & Liverpool canal noting the historical details still visible. Visit the centres of Leeds and Bradford, considering the buildings, industries and influential people. Pudsey: St James's Church Hall, Galloway Lane a) Armchair Walks Round Pudsey Ever looked at buildings on the way to the shop or when out walking and wanted to know more about them? This course will do just that taking you round parts of Calverley, Farsley, Fulneck, and Pudsey plus a sixteen mile walk round the old Pudsey Borough boundary ‑‑ without moving a muscle! Never mind the weather, come and discover Local History with old postcards, photographs, maps, books, etc., or share with us your own knowledge. Tuesday 10 weeks 1st October 2002 1.00 pm ‑ 3.00 pm Full Fee £40 Conc. £30 b) Armchair Walks: Pudsey Near and Far Venture from Pudsey with our armchair local history walks to include Rodley, Stanningley and the Calverley Millennium Way. Let's cross the valley to Rawdon and whilst over there we could enjoy the history and scenery at Roundhay Park. Once again no need to worry about the weather or stamina! 7th May 10 weeks 14th January 2003 1.00 pm ‑ 3.00 pm Full Fee £40 Conc. £30 Pudsey Leisure Centre, Community Room, Market Place a) Investigate your Family History A basic course looking at 19th and 20'hCentury sources for tracing your family tree, how to find and use them. We will also look at associated books, fiche, CDs, photographs, maps, etc. It is hoped to include short sessions when you can share your experiences with others who understand your enthusiasm! Suitable for those just starting out and those who are already hooked on family history. The 0pen College accredits this course for those wishing to obtain a certificate/credits.
