Farsley Celtic's steady rise up the Unibond League table
continued on Saturday with a 2-1 win at Chorley sending the Throstle
Nest outfit up to fourth.
Two strikes from on loan striker Darren Roberts were enough to secure
the points in what was a scrappy game from start to finish.
Chorley grabbed a 12th minute lead when Ashcroft neatly despatched a
debatable penalty.
Roberts, signed last week from Worksop Town, made it 1-1 on 32 minutes
when the ball fell kindly to him in the box and he made no mistake
from close range.
The Celts took the lead on 56 minutes when a smart run down the left
wing by Mick Midwood saw the big striker lob the onrushing 'keeper.
Roberts chased up and made sure by lashing the ball home.
Farsley now face a tough fixture treble with a visit to Bamber Bridge
on Tuesday night and a trip to high riding Lincoln United next
Saturday. The following Tuesday Matlock Town are the visitors for what
promises to be an almighty top of the table tussle.
The Celts secured a place in the West Riding County Cup Final last
week after a 3-0 demolition of Selby Town. They now face Halifax Town
in the Final in April.
