... get help to stop smoking

If stopping smoking was one of your New Year resolutions that’s fallen by the wayside, don’t worry because help is at hand with Leeds Smoking Service.

Stopping Smoking is the single most helpful thing you can do to improve your health and Leeds Smoking Service are here to help and support people in the Leeds area who want to stop smoking.

During the beginning of the year the teams have been doing various awareness raising activities around Leeds to promote the service, including information stalls at LGI, the Merrion Centre, St John’s Centre, Leeds Bus Station and the Owlcotes Centre. The service has also had the use of a smoking cessation bus that has travelled to various locations throughout Leeds including Leeds City centre, and Briggate.

Since their launch in March 2000, Leeds Smoking Service has helped over 3000 people to stop smoking.

All help is free of charge and support programmes can be offered on a one-to-one or group basis depending on your needs. Sessions are held in various venues across Leeds. Smokers attend a series of sessions over a 7-8 week period, which provide a combination of professional information and mutual support.

Smoking Cessation Specialist Paul Lambert says the programme is aimed at smokers who really want to give up but are finding it hard.

‘‘For some people, stopping smoking can be extremely difficult and many smokers have tried to quit on many previous occasions. Leeds Smoking Service is well aware of this and provides information, advice on nicotine replacement therapy and zyban as well as a great deal of support and encouragement’’.
