Come on.... one more time

There is more to staging a musical than meets the eye. We went behind the scenes at the Pudsey Trinity Amateur Operatic Society to see how they were getting on with their rehearsals for "My and My Girl"

The Society is presenting "Me and My Girl" at Pudsey Civic Hall in less than three weeks time and so there was an air of urgency when we saw them hard at work the other evening.

I spoke to Muriel Thomas, one of the directors who said ”We started practicing in July and we have been rehearsing here at Pudsey House four nights a week since the beginning of September”...

Muriel went on to say “It’s quite hard getting a cast together these days” ...“But we do have members who range from children in their early teens to the more senior members of society". She then went on to tell us about the musical itself, with music by Noel Gay, can be described as
‘a very happy,  family musical,  with a happy ending."
It certainly seems that all the cast are set on making the it a memorable event for Pudsey audiences.

During a break in  rehearsal we spoke to Norman Dewhirst who told us that he had been a member of the society for 35 years. ‘There are some who have been around for longer than me” Norman added.

Norman told us that the cost of putting on a performance was an expensive do with an investment of  up to ten thousand pounds. Hiring a good venue such as the Civic Hall is obviously the main cost but other costs include costumes, which have to be hired and many other costs occur. All this has to be recouped in ticket sales.

So don’t forget to book for this great musical.

The show is runs from 29th October to 2nd November at 7.15pm with a Saturday Matinee. There is a free bus from Pudsey Market Pace on the Saturday at 1.15 for Senior Citizens. Tickets for the show are available in Althams Travel, in Lowtown in Pudsey  or by phoning 0113 257 7482.
