Whenever the
International Committee decide to support an overseas project, it usually means
raising money as the hands on approach, much favoured by our club, becomes
impractical (unless you have particularly long arms).
The Nepal Trust,
a project dear to the heart of District 1040, duly received the £500.00
we raised last November via the Silent Auction. Then the on going, year long
project of buying, filling and despatching ten Aqua Boxes this year demanded
another £400.00 and we planned to accumulate this via an
entertainment designed to appeal to our members and their friends
and the general public. Radio Leeds have a very popular gardening programme on
Sunday lunchtimes starring Tim Crowther and Joe Maiden and their on the
road Gardeners Question Time was gaining momentum.
We chose this
to be our fund raising entertainment which took place on the 29th June at
Pudsey Grangefield School. The event was well attended and everyone enjoyed the
questions and answers from Joe, who never seems stumped for and answer, and the
multi talents of Tim who compered with charm and entertained us musically. Our
ladies organised the catering with imagination and flair and with the aid of
the raffle, well supported by donations of prizes from individuals and local
businesses, we more than met our target. |
